Since
the Modular Home Manufacturer allowed only very limited modifications to
their plans, we concentrated our efforts for
this 30 unit
development on the site layout and small site-built
additions. We
arranged the buildings to create a number of mini neighborhoods, each drawn together by its
own green space to foster community. Modifications to the standard modular
home components were made to optimize the layout on the site and in the houses.

To give the architecture
more character, we used two types of buildings and varied
the locations of additions and the way they were set
into the hillside. Landscaping was added to help
define the green spaces, provide privacy screens between the patios or decks of
different units, and to screen views between homes and parked cars.
All this was done at minimal cost with the final development looking as
if it had grown organically over time, rather than being a one time track
development.
The project was approved by the Planning Board.
