This urban development makes a statement with a strong
sculptural corner that helps create a
recognizable gateway to Boston’s South End. Beyond the corner
our urban design calls for an edge that will unify the pattern of the
neighborhood of the facades along both adjacent
streets. Behind the
strong Cartesian urban gestures along the street
of the mixed use housing, an oasis away from the noise and
bustle of the streets is created in the interior
courtyard where the buildings are transformed into organic
forms becoming part of a lush green park.
The green landscape with paths and benches
gives residents and visitors a place to meet and
relax. The facades of our buildings along the streets with
their loft
style continue the character of development in the
area.
The interior massing of the
116 unit development is stepped to allow light into both the courtyard units and
also the neighboring apartments. To mitigate the impact of cars on this already
traffic stressed area, a 200 car garage is located underground below the
project. This development incorporates several adjoining lots and amounts to
over half a city block. This development has received favorable
community reaction. The
potential for mixed use, which could include both office space and
commercial space along the main street, would be a further benefit to the area
by stimulating pedestrian and commercial activity.

Four buildings form a U shape enclosing a central landscaped courtyard.
Two of these buildings create an L shape that wraps around the corner.
The corner is designed as a separate building with an entirely different character.
It is given special attention because of its location at the corner of these two main streets, and due to its fabulous vistas of downtown.
The courtyard is a park with a number of paved areas with benches for the residents to enjoy.
Areas are connected by paths and stairways and surrounded by plantings; trees, bushes and planting groundcover.
The center focus are stairs gradually rising to the planted roof and a fountain with water rolling down these levels.
Smaller trees and groundcover will be planted on top of lower roofs. This area is visible from the access corridors and balconies to the apartments and is the view from the rooms in the apartments facing the courtyard.
Corridor access only on every second story.
