 Single family new construction

 This single family house design had to accommodate the needs of a large family. To minimize the visual impact of fitting a very large house onto a narrow site, a low pitched roof with a strong horizontal plane is placed on top of the large brick mass of the building. Horizontal corner windows allow the roof to hover over and minimize this mass. Arched windows are cut into the roof so that the roof can sit lower which also reduces the mass and lightens up the composition as a whole.

Appendages to the main building mass extend into the backyard to take full advantage of the views of the beautiful trees and are made out of wood to make a softer transition from inside to the landscaped architecture out side. With a visual tricks the stairwell looks more imposing by narrowing it as it goes up.
