Small House - Spaciousness and Functionality

Maximizing spaciousness and functionality we transformed a a small second floor and an attic to a 1800 SF 3 bedrooms,  study, living room and kitchen-dining and family room. This two unit building houses a growing extended family. The house was designed for a healthy indoor environment with materials minimal off-gassing and with a very tight insulation envelop. Because the house is set between large 2 story houses, we developed the attic and took advantage of the space over these houses and of views of a wooded hills at the third floor level. This is where we designed the main activity area in a tight attic, expanded with dormers and dramatized with a diagonal addition. To make these small spaces appear more spacious, we connected the second floor with a double height space and glass railings to the third floor.
