Paying attention to historic
detailing on the inside and outside, we brought this home back to its original
colonial revival elegance while at the same time providing spaces better suited
to modern lifestyles. In reconfiguring spaces the Architect
was able to improve the
flow of the house and extend indoor to outdoor spaces and
activate a beautiful back yard that had been cut off from
the rest of the house.
By removing outdated servants quarters and
master and servant space separations, we were able to
create several new rooms including, a family room kitchen, a play room den, and
a large master bedroom suite with its bath and dressing room.
The home renovation of the third floor included the attics'
cathedral ceiling to take full advantage of the spacious area under the roof. The
flow
between the new spaces is greatly improved. In particular the addition of a
triple French door and porch leading to a back yard newly designed for privacy
and visual interest. This adds to the openness of the house and improves the quality
of light in the kitchen/family room.
